
David Crown is the person who ran the charity that Juliet was a volunteer in.She used to be a volunteer in a charity that distributed food for the homeless people on the canal. Juliet was beautiful, responsible and kind. Juliet Sherman was the girl whose disappearance Martha investigates.Juliet and Liv were very close, and we learn that they started a relationship when they realised they were in love, a secret that nobody knew until Martha starts investigating. Yet, she was adopted by a large family, and as a teenager she used to tell Martha and Liv anecdotes about her peculiar family. Liv shows the features of her heritage: her mother was from Sri Lanka and her father Irish. There were three of them, Martha, Liv and Juliet. Olivia Heathcote, or Liv, is Martha’s friend.In the end, we learn that she is Katherine Crown, and helped her mother to get rid of Juliet’s body. She buys Liv’s flat, and when she gets a letter from Martha to Liv, she decides to pass herself off as Liv. At first we simply know that she is unbalanced and peculiar. Casey is the second voice in the book.There was a time when she toyed with alcohol, but now she stays away from alcohol. Life at home was unbearable, and her mother left her and her father when Martha was fifteen.


Her father was a police officer, but problems with alcohol pushed him to early retirement. We learn about Martha’s childhood and youth. The case is about the disappearance of her friend Juliet. Now she has the project of investigating cold cases, the first of which is the one which involves personally. She works in television, and she used to be the star of a morning, but she was replaced by someone younger. Martha Benn is clearly the main character in the novel.


The author of this novel hints that Martha could feature in some other thriller, so in case that happens, I will list the characters here for future reference:
